Connecting People with Nature

Audubon Maryland-DC works to educate about and connect all generations with nature. Backed by a nationwide network of Audubon Centers, Science and Education staff, Maryland's two Audubon Centers, Pickering Creek Audubon Center and Patterson Park Audubon Center connect thousands and thousands of students and adults with nature every year.

Youth Education

Both Audubon Centers have unique curriculum designed for each school system they work with which are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, Maryland College & Career Readiness Standards and Maryland Environmental Literacy Standards.  The goal of both centers is to give students a continuum of education with repeat interaction with nature throughout the student's school career. By providing frequent and quality opportunities for students to interact with the natural resources that surround them, Maryland's Audubon Centers are instilling in students a sense of place in and stewardship of the communities in which they live. Whether the urban landscape of Baltimore, or the rural character of the Eastern Shore, getting kids unplugged and outdoors to get hands-on opportunities in the natural space is imperative in empowering our youth to become environemtnally literate members of the community. 

Adult Education

Education, of course, does not end after formal schooling! Our Audubon Centers and Important Bird Area Programs engage adults in the outdoors through citizen-science volunteer opportunities, adult programming and more. Chapters go even further by providing communities throughout Maryland with bird-watching outings and lectures.
