We’re looking for volunteers who are interested in helping birds by participating in Audubon’s Climate Watch program!

Climate Watch is a fun community science project started by the National Audubon Society to understand how birds are reacting to climate change. Participating volunteers will learn how to identify species such as White-breasted Nuthatch and Eastern Bluebirds, then report their findings so we can track changes to their migration patterns based on our climate models.

The John James Audubon Center’s Bird Care Coordinator, Carey Wentz, Audubon MidAtlantic’s Program Manager for the Discovery Center, Damien Ruffner, and volunteer Climate Watch Coordinator Erin Rackovan will lead this exciting training session.

Carey and Erin will explain more about Climate Watch and teach you how to record your data. Then, Damien will take you through the basics of birding and how to spot our target species. The classroom portion of the training will be followed by a short bird walk around Mill Grove so you can apply your newly gained knowledge.

This is an excellent opportunity for novice and veteran birders alike to contribute to real bird conservation through community science.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, including appropriate footwear.

A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow.
