There are five local Audubon chapters that are active in Maryland and the District of Columbia. These chapters enable Audubon members and others to meet and share an appreciation of their common interests. They create a culture of conservation in local communities through education and advocacy, focusing on the conservation of birds, other wildlife, and conservation of important habitats. Chapters serve as hubs for local and regional conservation action and nature education, and with more than 9,400 chapter members, Audubon’s impact is recognized across Maryland. Whether we are putting up nest boxes for Wood Ducks, monitoring songbird populations, or advocating for more bird-friendly public policies, the Audubon community is a powerful network for birds, wildlife, and people.

Maryland Sanctuaries of Audubon Mid-Atlantic

Seven chapter-owned sanctuaries encompass more than 1,620 protected acres of land in Maryland that Audubon chapters own and manage. These special places provide opportunities for on-site, outdoor education programs, trails for birdwatching or nature walks, and places where communities can gather to learn, share knowledge, and take action on behalf of birds and other wildlife. The sanctuaries provide critical habitat to a host of birds and other wildlife, as well as peaceful respite to human visitors.
