Sunday, September 21st is Community Day at the John James Audubon Center. Everyone is invited to enjoy food, drinks, and dancing to music by DJ Valentin as we celebrate birds’ unique ability to connect communities across the Americas.
Festivities will include traditional folk dancers, salsa and bachata lessons, songbird-themed activities for kids, facepainting, food trucks, local breweries, canoeing, and more!
A special migration themed art exhibition featuring paintings, watercolors, photographs, and sculpture inspired by the colors of the Scarlet Tanager, Cerulean Warbler, and Wood Thrush, and created by local community art circles and Las Artivistas from CCATE - Center of Culture, Art, Training and Education - will debut as part of the event.
Scheduled activities include:
Bird Ambassador – 3:00-4:00 and 6:00-7:00
Face painting – 3:00-6:00
Historic House Open – 3:00-6:00
Birding by Canoe – 3:00, 3:45, 4:30, and 5:15 (Advanced registration is recommended but not required. Email millgrove@audubon.org.)
Storytelling and Craftmaking – 3:30, 4:30, and 5:30 (sessions last approximately 30 minutes.)
Guided Nature Walk – 4:00 and 5:00 (walks last approximately 30 minutes)
Traditional Folk Dancers – 4:30-4:50
Salsa and Bachata Lessons – 5:00-5:30
Starting at 3:00, a free shuttle will run at 30-minute intervals between CCATE, located at 1246 W. Main Street in Norristown, and the John James Audubon Center. Last departure from the Center will be at 7:00. No reservations are needed.
All activities and museum admission are FREE.
